About the Orchestra

The Sydney Southeast Orchestra is an exciting opportunity open to public school students in the Sydney area who play strings, woodwind, brass or percussion instruments. The Orchestra is open to students from years 5-8 and is especially aimed at players who may not have an orchestra program in their school or area. The main activity of the Orchestra is a two-day residential camp, held at Stanwell Tops Conference Centre from 28-29 October, 2019. During the camp, students will take part in rehearsals, sectionals and tutorials with specialist musicians. The Orchestra have a few additional rehearsals in preparation for a performance at the Sydney Southeast Showcase at Sutherland Entertainment Centre on Thursday 14 November, 2019.

Who Can Apply

Applications are open to all students currently enrolled in years 5-8 in public schools in the Sydney area. Proficiency on their chosen instrument is obviously necessary however previous orchestra experience is NOT required. You must be able to attend both the camp (October 28-29) and the major performances November 14).

For the experience to be worthwhile, students need to attend the workshop and all rehearsals and performances. Students of all levels are welcome to apply but it will be assumed that all applicants are competent on their instrument and can read music. There will be some auditioning so we get the best balance of parts.
