About the Band

We are very excited to announce that the Sydney Southeast Symphonic Winds (SSSW) program will recommence in 2022 to continue providing outstanding music education opportunities for students. Our committee are following the advice of the NSW Department of Education health and safety directorate, supported by a comprehensive COVID-19 safety plan. Our SSSW program will operate with some organisational and hygiene adjustments to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

2022 marks the 28th year of the Sydney Southeast Symphonic Winds ensemble (formerly known as the Sydney Region Band). Our goal is to provide advanced music education and performance opportunities for children in years 5-8 who are currently enrolled in public schools in and around the Sydney area.

The band has regularly performed at leading performance venues including the Sydney Opera House, Angel Place, Sydney Town Hall, Parliament House, and the Sydney Entertainment Centre, also representing the Department of Education at official events throughout Sydney. In very exciting news, we will be performing once again at the Sydney Opera House in their newly renovated Concert Hall. This will be the first Department of Education event in the new venue.

We hold a yearly camp where the students work with experienced conductors and tutors, and regular rehearsals are held at Caringbah North Public School. We also provide music teachers with professional development opportunities both as a part of the camp as well as through rehearsals and auditions.

Teachers can contact us to find out more.

Students are auditioned from all over greater Sydney to form a 100+ piece concert band. Information regarding the audition process is available Term 1 each year, with auditions occurring in early Term 2. For more details about auditioning and important dates follow the links at the side of the page.
